Performance Sports Therapy

Welcome to my blog!

Hi I'm Ellie, a Graduate Sports Therapist, BSc Hons (MSST) and current MSc Strengthening and Conditioning student. In the past I have worked with Rugby and American Football teams, Rowing and Kayaking clubs and Ballet schools as a sports therapist and a coach.

When I was 4 years old I went to my first ballet lesson with a friend, since then I have continued to dance. I have experience in a range sports however, I hope to focus specifically on classical ballet, my passion. So the aim of this blog is to advise on preventing and rehabilitating dance injuries, as well as enhancing the aesthetic performance of this art form.

Over the years my admiration for ballet has grown from an understanding and deep respect for the discipline, passion, physical exertion and thirst of the dancers to achieve artistic perfection. Ballet may not be a 'sport', however there are clear similarities between that of dancers and athletes, with both exhibiting areas which one may teach to the other to attain greater energy efficiency and skill.

Through working with a variety of team and individual sports, as well as my own physical training, I have learnt the importance of conditioning to prevent and rehabilitate injuries, as well as enhance athletic performance.
I have recently started on a strengthening and conditioning internship with young elite female footballers and elite University athletes.  First hand I see how such a programme for talented sports men and women can mean a difference between competitive rankings in their chosen sport.

The athleticism of the art form ballet has been recognised by sports such as football and  rugby for its grace through strong, explosive movements. I am aware not all athletes possess the poise and grace of a ballet dancer, however I feel there is a need in some sports to introduce such skill in order to create a more pleasing visual performance, as well as enhancing individuals movement patterns.

I will use Performance Sports Therapy as the title of this blog to advise coaches, dancers and therapists in the area of ballet conditioning. And I hope in the future to develop a business from it, to treat and coach dancers and athletes to full fitness and health.

I hope you find this blog beneficial. First post coming soon!!

- Ellie
